Panther City Salon Partners with House of Hope for Autism

House of Hope for Autism helps with the social isolation that comes with a diagnosis on the spectrum.  Mandy Skaggs is the head of this non-profit organization.  In late 2016, Mandy was referred to Taryn Bolt, one of the many very talented stylists who has been at Panther City Salon since 2014.  Mandy asked Taryn if she would be willing to help, and Taryn was very excited about this opportunity to give back to the community.

In January 2017, Taryn had the first sensory haircut party out of Mandy’s house.  That was the day that changed Taryn’s outlook on life.  It took two stylists and six handlers to complete the first haircut.  It required speed, patience, trust, and being able to cut at all angles.  Today, that same kiddo stands in front of one stylist and gets his haircut like a champ.

From that first time in 2017, Taryn has evolved this into opening Panther City Salon on the first Sunday of every other month for sensory cuts.  We turn off the lights and the music to allow for a safe environment for our sensory clients to come in and receive a customized, outside-of-the-box, haircut with our caring, patient, and experienced stylists, who volunteer their time.

Panther City Salon will also be hosting a Cut-a-Thon in the future (it was originally scheduled for May 4, 2020, but with COVID it had to be cancelled).  The Cut-a-Thon will help kick off a campaign for House of Hope to raise funds so there can be an actual meeting facility for even more support for the families that face the struggle of social isolation that often comes with Sensory Diagnoses. The next Sensory Cutting Event is scheduled for October 4, 2020.

Panther City Salon and its stylists are always looking for ways to team up to help the community and give back however we can, while also building and supporting each other and our individual goals.
